F 26 / Mia Milgrom: Fibres / Vlákna

Vernissage of an art object in the urban landscape & dance performance by Johanna Šilarová.

Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 3.00pm
Near the former military swimming area on the Chrudimka River (see map here)

You are warmly invited to a picnic connected with the opening of an art object by Mia Milgrom, which the artist began creating during her residency in Pardubice in the spring of this year.

  • The sculpture, set in the river, responds to the changing water levels – gradually revealing itself or becoming partially submerged as the water rises and falls.

"During my residency in Pardubice, I explored the Chrudimka River and its surrounding river landscape. Through research and a site-specific installation, I address the themes of instability and pollution. I asked myself questions about perceiving a place from different perspectives—from the riverbank, from the riverbed, from the railway bridge. In terms of materials, I reference both traditional techniques of water impregnation and purification, and human infrastructures and impermanence."

As part of the exhibition opening, there will be an original dance performance by Johanna Šilarová: Reptilia.

  • Mia Milgrom’s work explores themes of human and non-human relationships and systems of support. Her spatial installations oscillate between fragile moments of disintegration and the symbiosis of individual parts. By combining natural and synthetic materials, she creates unexpected relationships and alternative possibilities for connection.
  • Johanna Šilarová is a dancer, performer, and teacher of movement improvisation. She lives in Mexico, where she is currently exploring ways to connect various movement tendencies, such as martial arts and social dances, within a single movement practice. This practice understands the diversity of physical dialogue—with others and with the surrounding environment—as a natural outcome of any authentic exchange. She primarily works with emotions, memories, and stories that unfold in the background of this dialogue. She is currently also engaged in video performance, where she works primarily with public space. Her inspiration comes from the tension between apparent everydayness and performativity, and she explores the thin line between these two conceptual poles.

This project is made possible with the kind financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Statutory City of Pardubice. Thank you!
