AiR 2026 / Diren Demir

A residency project by Berlin-based artist Diren Demir, bringing together art, climate activism, and scientific research.

5–18 October 2026

Diren Demir has a long-standing interest in working in public space, where he explores new ways of engaging with audiences and fostering spontaneous interactions. His aim is to challenge and reshape social codes and create liberating situations in which viewers become active participants.

In Pardubice, he presented Walk in the Rain, an interactive form of street art that brings together art, climate activism, and scientific research. He invited the local community, particularly young people, to take part in the project. He met with them and recorded short interviews capturing their reflections, memories, and perspectives on public space in Pardubice. The interviews also inspired a series of short phrases, which the artist applied directly onto the streets using hydrochromic paint—a special ink that remains invisible when dry and appears only when exposed to rain.

The result is a unique, ephemeral layer of urban space that becomes visible only on rainy days.

The OFFCITY AiR 2026 residency project is made possible with the generous financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Statutory Town of Pardubice.
